Brain Connections in Diabetes

The study aims to use a special chemical called [11C]UCB-J to measure the connections between brain cells and how these may be different between people with and without diabetes.

  • 25 years ~ 55 years
  • Male, Female

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)

What will be asked of you

At the consent and screening visit, participants will be seen after a 10 hour overnight fast for a brief medical history and physical exam as well as fasting blood work. At the scan visit, participants will complete a PET scan and an MRI scan with a short break in between scans. All women of childbearing potential will complete a urine pregnancy test at each visit.

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • you have type 1 diabetees
  • you have type 2 diabetes
  • you do not have diabetes and are otherwise healthy

Not eligible if:

  • you have other chronic medical problems besides diabetes
  • you have a history of illicit drug, psychiatric medication, anti-epileptic medications use in the past 3 months
  • you are currently using tobacco or have a history of alcoholism
  • you are trying to become pregnant or are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • you are claustrophobic
