Blerds and Anime Study

The purpose of this study is to look at Japanese anime and its use of Black music genres (such as rap, reggae, jazz, and funk) in the contexts of Blerd (Black Nerd) culture. This study focuses on the reception of six anime series between 2004 and 2019 that uses Black music genres and/or has identifiable Black characters by Black viewers from the United States.
