Oregon is a national leader in the creation of school based health centers (SBHCs.) In the 2018-19 school year, 10 percent of the state's public school students attended one of the 76 schools with an affiliated SBHC. With support from the Spencer Foundation, our project aims to undertake a rigorous evaluation on the effects of Oregon's SBHCs on student educational outcomes. By investigating the educational consequences of Oregon's SBHCs and by uncovering the characteristics of highly effective SBHCs we hope to uncover a model for cultivating healthy youth development that can be replicated by schools across the nation. Further, we hope to gain insights that can help Oregon SBHCs more effectively serve the states' youth.
