Movie Search Study

There is a lack of transparency when users use search engines like Google, as it doesn't clearly explain why certain results are returned. We have developed a transparent search algorithm that clearly explains why a result is returned. This study aims to ask users to test out if our system is useful. We will ask users to think of a scenario where they are searching for movies that satisfy multiple genres. Our system returns a movie's plot, and shows why that movie has a certain genre by showing relevant sentences and its confidence in its guess. The goal is to see if such explanations will help users in their search task.
