In this study, we want to learn more about two strategies that interrupt sitting: walking and seated pedaling. Sitting, or sedentary behavior, is a public health crisis that increases all causes of mortality and doubles the risk of cardiovascular disease. Interrupting sitting may help reduce the cardiovascular disease risk associated with uninterrupted bouts of sitting.
At each visit, you will sit for some time while doing a low-stimulus activity (i.e. reading a book or watching a TV show). During two of the visits, sitting will be interrupted periodically with 5 minutes of walking or pedaling. You will be asked to fill out questionnaires at the first and last visits.
Upon completion of the study, participants will receive a $100 gift card. , A summary of cardiovascular assessment results will be given to participants upon request.
