This study investigates whether and how local economic power explains the unequal state development in Chile. On the one hand, I intend to assess how close ties between businesspeople and mayors obstruct the state's efforts to improve social services and goods for the population. On the other hand, I aim to study how these close linkages curb the extent that local politicians invest in a better capacity to collect money from taxes.
Thank you for your interest, but this study is recruiting by invitation only.
