Female and male adolescents may respond differently to pubertal changes in hormones including testosterone. This study will examine whether brain activity associated with emotion regulation may link testosterone change with different symptoms. Further, we will test the effects of a smartphone-based training program on brain dynamics underlying emotion regulation and symptoms of depression - the first step in developing new intervention and treatment approaches for adolescent psychopathology.
This study will be a hybrid of remote and in-person sessions and will last approximately 8 weeks, with a two-month follow-up period. During this study, you will participate in an enrollment session (~1 hour), which includes a clinical interview, weekly hormone (saliva) collections and mood ratings, along with 3 cognitive-emotional processing (biobehavioral laboratory) sessions with electroencephalography (EEG). You will also complete a 4-week mobile health training program (Healthy Minds Program) administered on your personal cell phone, and 2 monthly follow-up surveys.
