Purpose: To develop and enhance a new ultrasound imaging technology (ARFI-Acoustic Radiation Frequency Imaging) for differentiating carotid artery plaque composition. Being able to differentiate the plaque composition at various degrees of blockage, we hope will help surgeons determine which carotid artery blockages need surgery and which ones do not to avoid stroke.
