The purpose of this study is to examine how 8-weeks of virtual reality can improve outcomes in patients after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. We are doing this to see if virtual reality can improve physical functioning after ACL reconstruction. *This study is a collaboration with the UNC Sports Medicine Institute*
If you agree to participate in our research study, you will be asked to come to the Psychology of Sport Injury Lab in Fetzer Hall and Woolen Gym on UNC at Chapel Hill's campus for up to 26 sessions over an 8-week period. These sessions will include screening, assessments, and training sessions. The purpose of the initial assessment and screening session (~3 hours) is to explain the study, ensure you meet all inclusion criteria, complete a jumping task using motion capture (movement), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), neurocognitive function (reaction time), and questionnaires about your knee health. You will be asked to wear a small activity tracking device at all times throughout your participation in the study. The rest of the study consists of 24 training sessions, which will last between 0.5-1.0 hours each. The final assessment (~3 hours) will occur after 8 weeks following the first training session and would involve the same series of tests related to your jumping biomechanics, fMRI assessment, and questionnaires.
