Religious Values vs Party Partisan Values: Analyzing the Unborn Child Option

This study is asking the question: does a state legislators' religious values trump his/her party partisan values? To answer this question, we are looking at the Unborn Child Option - a policy which gives low-income pregnant mothers free prenatal coverage. We are collecting data on the state legislators' religious affiliation, party identification and vote on the Unborn Child Option. The study will contribute to the current literature on religion's impact on how state legislators vote on certain issues that simultaneously implicate their religious beliefs and party partisan stances (specifically abortion and immigration policy).
