Traitors or Principled Politicians? How Partisan Affect Alters the Interpretation of Costly Signals in Politics

This study aims to understand how people process political statements made by US legislators who endorse an outparty position. Are Republican Senators backing a Democratic proposal because of their own convictions more likely to be seens as pricipled politicians or party traitors? Whichkinds of people are more likely to see the same senator as a traitor and what kinds have the opposite image?
