We are studying whether the FDA approved vaccine, BexseroTM, which is already proven to provide protection against Meningitis B, will also provide protection against the bacteria that causes gonorrhea. Researchers at UNC-Chapel Hill have been working for over two decades to develop preventative measures for a common STD, Gonorrhea. Currently, antibiotics are available that are highly effective for curing Gonorrhea, but antibiotic resistance in the bacteria that causes Gonorrhea is on the rise and no vaccine has been proven in a clinical trial to protect individuals from Gonorrhea.
You will be asked to receive 3 FDA-approved vaccinations and a controlled challenge with bacteria to test protection. At most visits you will be asked to provide a urine sample. In addition, a few of the visits will require a blood draw.
