Conventional wisdom holds that once party identities are formed, they generally remain fairly imperviously change. However, scholars once thought of party identity as being more socially bounded than is suggested modern conventional wisdom. This study aims to resolve this tension by leveraging predictable changes in people's social networks and observing whether that change is associated with subsequent changes in people's party identity.
