Finding Correlations between Asthma Exacerbation, Physiological Measurements and Environmental Factors

The study aims to identify asthma-related physiological changes observed by wearable devices in real-world conditions. We aim to look at your heart, activity level, breathing, and coughing in order to find a common pattern that can potentially alert the start of worsening asthma symptoms. We will also explore any challenges on the use of wearable technologies.

Minority Mental Health Climate Survey

This cross-sectional survey will document the mental health of minority students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With the concurrent pandemics of COVID-19, systemic racism, and interpersonal violence, this study will contextualize how students are navigating these circumstances. Furthermore, the study will aid in assessing the strengths and shortcomings of the university's mental health landscape and how student-driven solutions can address these areas.

survey of treatment of tooth infections among primary care providers

There are variations in the guidelines for treatment of a patient presenting with tooth infections. Patients often end up in the emergency room with deep neck infections of tooth-borne origin. We aim to survey what is currently being practiced in the community and if we would be able to provide improvements to those treatment modalities.

Comparing reading strategies usage of intermediate-level heritage and non-heritage learners of Chinese

Research has shown that effective use of reading strategies contributes to reading comprehension. Thus far, most studies on reading strategy use have been conducted with second language (L2) readers of alphabetic languages such as English. There has been scant research on reading strategy use of Chinese as a second language (CSL) learners. Among the limited studies examining reading strategies employed by CSL learners, the majority were focused on advanced learner's reading strategies, and less attention has been devoted to intermediate-level learners. Furthermore, although a small number of studies investigating intermediate-level CLS learners' reading strategy use had both non-heritage and heritage participants, no comparison between the two groups was made. Given the vast differences of the learning profiles of heritage and non-heritage CSL students, it is possible that the reading strategies adopted by the two groups and the learning outcomes could be quite different. This study addresses this gap in literature.

Remote Assessment for Latinx Infants

(1) To translate a remote developmental assessment into Spanish with feedback from the Spanish-speaking community (2) To try out the assessment with Latinx infants who are showing risk signs of a developmental disability. After completing the assessment, we will interview families about their experiences. We hope that this information will help us improve remote assessments for Latinx families to better match their culture and language.
