Influenza Vaccination Quality Improvement

I will identify practical quality improvement interventions in order to increase influenza vaccination rates in pediatric pulmonology patients. Pediatric pulmonology patients are at an increased risk of complications and death from influenza. Influenza vaccination is an important measurement to provide patients quality medical care.

Predicting the multi-omic impact of psychiatric GWAS associations- DATA ANALYSIS ONLY

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have been instrumental in understanding the genetic underpinnings of complex traits such as psychiatric disorders. In this project, we will develop and apply algorithms to translate these findings into more biologically interpretable measures; our methods will allow quick and easy prediction of multi-omic data from GWAS, bypassing the need for tissue or sample collection, and allowing psychiatric multi-omics to be studied for the first time at the necessary scale. Our results will highlight putatively causal biological mechanisms for a range of psychiatric disease including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and anorexia nervosa.

EGID Partners

EGID Partners is an online cohort of patients with eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGIDs), like eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), eosinophilic gastritic (EG), eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE), and/or eosinophilic colitis (EC). It is a way to conduct important clinical research through surveys, and by filling out the initial survey, as well as follow-up surveys every 6 months, you can help answer important questions about living with EGIDs. We are also looking for people without EGIDs to provide information as well, so we can make comparisons between those do and don't have EGIDs. Adults as well as parents/caregivers of children are eligible. Find out more at www.egidpartners.org

Atrial Strain as a Measure of Atrial Mechanical Recovery Following Cardioversion

The purpose of this study is to define patient populations who may recover left atrial mechanical function rapidly (<24 hours) following cardioversion. Defining these characteristics will help us weigh the risks and benefits of anticoagulation following cardioversion.

Estimating the impact of a flavored cigar ban

The objective of this project is to estimate the public health impact of a flavored cigar ban on tobacco use, mortality and health disparities in the United States. This project will build a microsimulation model of individuals living in the US who are current, former, or potential users of cigars, cigarettes and e-cigarettes. The model can be used to track tobacco use over time, so the impact of a flavored cigar ban on smoking and mortality in the US population and in priority populations for tobacco control, such as among people who are Black or have lower incomes, can be estimated.

Hypertonic Saline in Non-CF Bronchiectasis

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the effects of 7% hypertonic saline (HS) delivered by nebulizer on mucociliary clearance (MCC) - a test that shows the rate at which a person's lungs can clear inhaled particles. We will compare the rate of MCC at baseline (before treatment with HS), with MCC after a single dose of HS (acute treatment), and with MCC after two weeks of treatment with HS twice a day after 12 hours from the last dose of HS (sustained effect). We will also assess response to HS with other outcomes (lung function testing, changes in phlegm/mucus, and survey responses). If we find there is a sustained effect of HS, this would support the use of HS as part of airway clearance for people with bronchiectasis.
