Promoting Health in the Homeless Community: Assessing the Screening Process for Social Determinants of Health in Homeless Shelters

The purpose of this study is to improve the intake assessment tool of homeless shelters, to better meet the needs of the potential residents. This will be done by identifying and addressing gaps in the intake assessment tools that homeless shelters use. Specifically, it will focus on addressing gaps related to social determinants of health (SDOH). By identifying and addressing these gaps, homeless shelters will be able to better assess the SDOH needs of their potential residents. This will help identify more needs of homeless individuals, promote health, and reduce the risk for negative health outcomes in this population.

"Does the way that information is presented to people affect how they learn about genetics and if they want to be in research studies?"

We are recruiting 216 people at events in the community to look at different types of educational materials about genomics. We will survey them before and after to see if and how their knowledge and willingness to participate in research was affected. Then, we will ask 30 of those people to participate in a 45-60 minute interview over Zoom. This will help us to gather more information about their preferences and attitudes toward genomic research. We will be recruiting from a diverse group of people and offering materials in both English and Spanish. The purpose of this is to improve health literacy and willingness of participate in genomic research in order to improve health equity.

Evaluating mPATH-Cloud, a digital decision aid and navigation tool to support CRC screening

We are implementing a digital health intervention, mPATH-Cloud, in one community health center. Patients who receive a link to the mPATH-Cloud website will be able to view a video designed to help them choose the colorectal cancer (CRC) screening test that is best for them. Patients who select colonoscopy will receive a referral from their primary care provider. Patients who do not select colonoscopy will receive a FIT in the mail. We will assess the feasibility and effectiveness of implementing mPATH-Cloud in combination with mailed FIT outreach for increasing CRC screening among community health center patients.

Family Medicine Point-of-Care Ultrasound Needs Assessment

This research study aims to identify the national need of family medicine residency educators regarding point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) education and resources. The study will collect data on the state of POCUS education and resources at medical universities across the country through an optional survey sent to faculty who are members of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. The questions in the survey focus on the respondee's level of POCUS training, use of POCUS in their day-to-day practice, and desire for different forms of POCUS content to integrate into their residency programs. The data will be collected and evaluated using Qualtrics.
