The purpose of this study examining ESL teachers and their roles as a interpreters between North Carolina public education and their immigrant students and families. My research questions are (1) how is COVID-19 affecting opportunities of learning among ESL students, and (2) how are ESL teachers seeking to respond to COVID-19 effects on their students? I will be conducting qualitative interviews with ESL teachers and classroom teachers from Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools to better grasp how ESL teachers are grappling with these troubling times.
We have created a workbook about Lynch Syndrome, a genetic condition that means an individual is at high risk of developing certain cancers, and family testing. It is important that patients with Lynch Syndrome tell their family members about their condition so their family members understand their risks and can be tested for Lynch Syndrome too. We are testing our workbook with a small group of patients with Lynch Syndrome to understand if the workbook is helpful in managing their condition and talking to family members.

The proposed study will add to the growing literature exploring the impact of environmental turbulence on the organizational operations of local governments. We seek to study the changes in performance management practices in the public sector in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study adds to the research on cut-back management in local public organizations that focuses on the recession. Previous research on performance management during turbulence has shown a heightened use and effectiveness of local public organizations' performance management practices. The proposed study will take this research forward by exploring: • The extent to which COVID-19 impacted performance management systems in different local government departments. • The factors that lead to higher or lesser use of performance management during the crisis. • How leadership support and perceptions surrounding performance management impact the use of performance management in line departments during the crisis, and • Whether performance management helps local governments in economic recovery.
