Unintuitive Features Study

Nowadays, AI systems have been applied widely in a variety of predictive tasks, from objective detection to text classification. These AI systems have greatly advanced automated decision-making. However, sometimes humans and AI systems think in very different ways, which means humans and AI systems might use different evidence to make predictions. In this study, we are using sentiment analysis of Amazon product reviews as a case study. Humans will judge sentiments of different words with different AI explanations. Human and AI judgments will be compared to find to which extend human and AI knowledge align.

Informational professionals and the use of ChatGPT

We are doing research on large language models such as ChatGPT, Bing AI, and Google Bard. We are interviewing and conducting diary studies with information professionals (e.g. finance, law, IT, business, academia, journalism, and consulting) who use these systems in their work. If you're open to sharing your experiences with these tools, you can choose to participate in a 10-workday diary study followed by an interview which could last between 30 to 90 minutes. As a token of our appreciation, participants will be offered a $60 Gift Card or payment if you choose to complete both the diary study and the interview. We are look forward to hearing from you!

The Feminist Tsunami: How Massive Feminist Struggles Are Impacting Women's Everyday Lives in Latin America

For my dissertation, I am broadly interested in looking at the effects that the latest wave of the feminist movement in Latin America has had on women's lives. I am particularly interested in looking at the past 7 years, starting in 2015, during which the movement has grown and peaked to become the most active political force in the region (Gutierrez 2019). While most research examining the rise of this movement has focused on theorizing its agenda, consisting of novel organizing and coalition-building strategies (Gago 2020; Furtado and Sosa 2020), I am interested in understanding how this movement shapes lived experiences and concrete social outcomes in women's lives-which we currently know little about.
