Mixing Solar Power and Agriculture: A Survey Study

We want to understand how farmers make decisions around whether or not to put solar panels on their land. We also want to know what might stop them from putting solar panels on top of farmland and still plant underneath the panels. To do this, we are asking farmers questions in small groups and through an online survey that will help us to identify what is most important to them when they make their decisions.

Movie Search Study

There is a lack of transparency when users use search engines like Google, as it doesn't clearly explain why certain results are returned. We have developed a transparent search algorithm that clearly explains why a result is returned. This study aims to ask users to test out if our system is useful. We will ask users to think of a scenario where they are searching for movies that satisfy multiple genres. Our system returns a movie's plot, and shows why that movie has a certain genre by showing relevant sentences and its confidence in its guess. The goal is to see if such explanations will help users in their search task.

Metronome Gait Training

The purpose of this research study is to determine how well you can match the beat of a metronome and if there are any changes in your walking with use of the metronome. Metronomes are commonly used in physical therapy, but we are looking at the effects of using and slower and faster speed of metronome. The use of the slower frequency metronome on the treadmill is intended to help you take larger steps. The use of a faster frequency metronome as you walk over ground is intended to assist you in taking faster steps.

Impact of Stereotypes on Credibility & Empathy

I am studying the impact of stereotypes on the ability to empathize with another individual. I am also studying the impact of stereotypes on the perceptions of another individual's credibility. I am doing this because I believe it will provide a firm connection to broader conversations about the reasons why black women are not equally represented in movements like #MeToo and #BlackLivesMatter.
